Desirata sits comfortably in the heart of Quatre Bornes as a spot where a laid-back coffee break can easily stretch into a satisfying lunch or casual dinner. It’s a café by classification but carries the feel of a small, well-curated eatery with a clear nod to Italian and Sicilian flavors, which is woven naturally into the Mauritian rhythm of the neighborhood.

The atmosphere at Desirata is welcoming without being bustling—imagine a mid-morning pause, with locals mingling over expertly brewed coffee and fresh pastries that hold their own alongside their gelato, which some say rivals what you’d find in Italy. This makes it an ideal spot for a relaxed chat or solo escape when you need a quality hand-crafted coffee, perhaps paired with a light snack or something sweet.

Lunch and dinner here lean toward simple, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared dishes. The menu is concise with carefully chosen options: from tender lamb (Souris D'Agneau) and a beef burger that pairs well with crisp fries, to richer items like Magret De Canard. The inclusion of well-balanced salads and grilled vegetables suggests a thoughtful approach to accompaniments, offering a meal that feels nourishing without excess. Service tends to be friendly and efficient, matching the pace of a café that’s both a quick stop and a spot to linger.

Desirata also shines in offering a touch of indulgence. Their gelato features flavors like pistachio, mango, and vanilla, making it a refreshing finish or midday treat. The presence of macarons and cakes with local twists adds a bit of sweet inventory that can cater to a variety of tastes, perfect whether you’re stopping in alone or sharing over conversation.

This café appeals most to those who appreciate quality food and coffee paired with an informal but polished experience. It fits neatly into the daily life of Quatre Bornes, serving anyone from nearby office workers grabbing a brisk lunch to locals and travelers who want to slow down and savor something carefully made. The best times to visit seem to be late mornings or early afternoons on weekdays when the space feels calm and attentive, but the vibe adapts well through early evening for something more relaxed after a day out.

Nice place to enjoy coffee and the pastries are equally good. The gelatos are equally good and reminded me of the gelatos in Italy. Price is Rs 120 on cone. I recommend the Pistacchio, mango and vanilla gelato.

All the food is fresh and delicious (on the pricier end, but it's worth it). Great coffee too. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. A nice place to take a break in central Quatre-Bornes.

Come here to enjoy the true-blue Italian-Sicilian experience right here in the heart of Mauritius. The menu has 3 options in each type : fish, beef, chicken, and vegetarian. The bread that they serve at the beginning of the meal is lovely. We ordered the Poulet Roti, Ravioli, Dorad, and Boeuf. All in all, a yummax meal which leaves you wanting for more. The cherry on top is the gelato, which is smooth, rich, creamy, and decadent. A must-have to end your rather luxurious, hearty, and scrumptious meal.

Desirata for lunch was an excellent experience. I had the thon mi-cuit served with fresh salads and grilled vegetables—it was absolutely delicious! My companion chose the beef burger, which was also full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The service was friendly and efficient, and we appreciated how quickly everything was served. They offer a menu of the day, which makes lunch options even more enticing. I usually go there for dessert, but this time I wanted to try their lunch—and it definitely didn’t disappoint! While waiting, they served us warm bread with butter, which was tasty and perfectly salted. I highly recommend this spot. It’s located in Quatre Bornes, offers reservation options, and has parking available.

Is there a rating for a 6 star somewhere?... Seriously, this small compact place has everything to offer and so much better than 90% of Mauritian resto.. perfect gelato on edge of discovery.. perfect cakes (with local names? Taste?).. filling breaks.. MACARONS... heathly food.. and fish - chicken - beef - Lamb and everything taste good... Have a try in the Quatre Bornes Quarters

I went out with my friends. The ice-cream taste is 10/10 The desserts are really good. Strawberry based deserts is worth to try. It's expensive though that's the only setback
